Immigration Solicitor & Notary Public
A full-time Immigration Solicitor and Notary Public. My notarial practice is based in Berkshire, with services across the Midlands, West London and beyond, subject to travel. Out-of-hours emergency appointments at short notice, and home visits by prior arrangement in the local area.
What is a Notary Public?
A Notary Public is an independently qualified and regulated lawyer holding Professional Indemnity Insurance and an annual practising certificate. Notaries are appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and are subject to regulation by the Court of Faculties (facultyoffice.org.uk).
A Notary Public verifies facts and authenticates documents for use outside of England and Wales. I provide all notarial services to individuals and corporate entities, quickly. Whether you are setting up a company abroad, granting a power of attorney, swearing an affidavit, or need a personal certificate or degree attestation, I can help.
Notarial services
A full range of notarial acts for private clients and businesses — prepared, reviewed and authenticated for use overseas.
Authenticating documents to incorporate, register or operate a company in another jurisdiction.
Preparing and notarising powers of attorney for property, business and personal matters overseas.
Swearing affidavits and witnessing statutory declarations and oaths for use abroad.
Certifying personal certificates, degrees and academic qualifications for foreign authorities.
Notarial acts for companies — resolutions, contracts and commercial documentation.
Arranging FCDO apostilles and consular legalisation so your documents are accepted overseas.
Legalisation & the Apostille
Many countries also require notarised documents to be legalised. Legalisation is a double-check to confirm that the notary's signature is genuine and recognised by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Documents may also be checked by foreign embassies to confirm that the notary's signature matches the one held on their records.
The requirement depends on the country involved. Once the authenticity of the signature is confirmed, a certificate is attached — called an Apostille.
The highest level of document legalisation — it certifies the document's country of origin.
How it works
Share your documents and instructions so the matter, country and requirements can be confirmed.
Once your documents are seen and instructions confirmed, you receive an indication of the likely charges.
Documents are notarised and, where needed, sent for apostille or consular legalisation ready for use abroad.
Fees
Fees are assessed mainly by reference to the time spent on the matter, on the basis of an hourly charging rate. I quote competitive fees that reflect the professional time spent reviewing, drafting and amending the documentation. The complexity and urgency of the matter, any necessary legalisation, and additional travel time are all taken into account.
Once I have seen your documents and confirmed your instructions, I can give you an indication or estimate of the likely charges. I reserve the right to revise any estimate where the work differs significantly from your initial instructions.
